James Rieger has been involved with distance education and educational technology for many years.  He was the director of a nationally-accredited online high school program, supervised curriculum design and instruction for a private online high school, and created professional development programs for online instructors. 

Mr. Rieger has been the Director of Technology for a private school system, Director of Instructional Technology, District Coordinator for Curriculum Integration, and taught as a certificated high school teacher in biology and music.  He was nominated and accepted into “Who’s Who of American Teachers” in 2002, and is a Cum Laude graduate of the University of California, San Diego.

Amy Paul -- Science Instructor

 

Ms. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Sonoma State University, along with a minor in Statistics. Ms. Paul has shared her love of science and the ocean with students of all ages all over the world through various educational formats, ranging from videoconferencing with students in the United Kingdom to teaching onboard a research vessel off the coast of California. She has taught in structured classroom settings as well as out in the field. She gained valuable research experience during the time she volunteered as a lab assistant at the world renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. Ms. Paul’s work experience includes research, developing K-12 science and natural history curriculum, and teaching.

Jacquelyn Fitzmaurice – Social Science Instructor / Assistant Dean of Instruction

Ms. Fitzmaurice holds two Bachelor’s Degrees; one in Secondary Education and the other in History, from Georgian Court University. During her studies she spent a year studying abroad at the University of the Virgin Islands. She currently holds two teaching certificates; one from New Jersey, Teacher of Social Studies (K-12), and a Preliminary Single Subject Credential from California. She has successfully passed the CBEST, PRAXIS I, and PRAXIS II. Ms. Fitzmaurice has a strong passion for the social sciences, and truly enjoys sharing that passion with her students.

Evan McClosky – Electives Instructor

Mr. McClosky earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Liberal Studies - Education from San Diego State University and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Crosscultural Teaching with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from National University. He holds a California Multiple Subject Professional Clear Teaching Credential. Mr. McClosky has worked in the education field for the past seven years as a teaching assistant, substitute teacher, and classroom instructor.

During this time, he has assisted in implementing a variety of reading and mathematics programs, completed the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) mentoring program, and worked on a one-on-one basis in an anger management program with a severe Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) student. Mr. McClosky has also spent time as a research assistant for a fine art appraiser.

Jesse Nason – Mathematics Instructor

Jesse Nason graduated from California State University in Long Beach with a degree in Mathematics in 1999.  Since then he has worked for a national tutoring center, and has recorded 4 CDs while traveling around the world.  He finds math to be an important part of life, and he believes that all students have the capability of understanding mathematical concepts. Math is a subject, that when taught correctly, can be understood by everyone.

Stacey Walker – English Instructor

Mrs. Walker received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Bethany University. She then went on to receive her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at California State University, San Marcos. She has taken and passed the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST), the Multiple Subject Assessment Test (MSAT), and the Reading Instruction Competency Assessment Test (RICA). She has taught second grade and fifth grade. She has worked in Distance Education teaching high school students English, Math, and Psychology. While working in Distance Education she developed curriculum for such courses as Advanced Composition, English Literature, English 9A/B, and English 11A/B and served as an English Department Chair. In her free time, she likes to read, spend time with her family and scrapbook.

Paula Shafir - English Instructor

Ms. Shafir holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Irvine. She is currently working on obtaining her Masters in Education from Argosy University. She has successfully passed the CBEST. Prior to arriving at Allied High School Ms. Shafir taught 9th and 10th grade English at the high school level. Paula enjoys Russian literature, critical theory and philosophy. She is fluent in Russian and reads Hebrew. She has a passion for reading and enjoys authors such as Chuck Palahniuk.


Gary Christopherson

Gary Christopherson was born and raised in California. He grew up playing baseball and had the fortunate opportunity to play in the minor leagues in various U.S. cities. After his baseball career came to an end, he spent several years in the U.S. Navy traveling to different states and countries. Mr. Christopherson holds a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Geography from California State University, Long Beach and a M.A. in the Humanities with an emphasis on philosophy, history, art, literature, and music from Cal State Dominguez Hills. Mr. Christopherson has passed the CBEST credential examination.

Karin Coulter

Ms. Karin Coulter graduated from Chapman University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with a Spanish concentration, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and a Master of Arts in Teaching.  She has studied Spanish since her freshman year of high school and spent a semester studying at the University of Granada in Granada, Spain.

After college, Ms. Coulter spent one year teaching English to students in Taiwan and was able to travel around Southeast Asia.  Over summer 2006, she taught English to high school students from Spain for a local language school and escorted the students on trips around Southern California.

In her free time, Ms. Coulter enjoys traveling, taking pictures, reading, playing the piano, and spending time with friends and family.

Tania Saba

Ms. Saba received her Bachelor of Arts in History and English from the University of California Irvine. As a History and English major, she emphasized studies in world civilizations and foreign literature to expand her perception of humanity in a broader context.

She has successfully passed her California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) and is currently working on her California teaching credential through National University.

She finds the disciplines of English and History vital to understanding the complexity of human nature and hopes to pass that passion onto future students. She is fluent in Arabic.

In her free time, Ms. Saba reads, paints and studies languages (French, Spanish and Italian).
